This. You have no idea how many doctors I saw for my chronic pain until I put my foot down and said, look, I cannot live like this. It is not depression, it is not "in my head", I am in fucking pain, that's why I'm depressed and I cannot continue on this way.
If they do need to refer you elsewhere, have them refer you to someone "higher up" in the profession, like a headache specialist, pain management specialist, etc.
