So the job is:

teacher's aide in a pre-k/k/1 classroom (I have no experience w/ this age group)
6 hrs per day
no benefits
$13/hr

(A teacher position in Boston would land me at about 40-50K per year fyi...and this position is in BPS)

I say no because of the no health benefits thing and you need that.

I say no because I taught kinders and you know what...13 bucks an hour is not even half of what that job deserves.

I know, right? When I worked as an aide before, I made way more than $13 an hour.

i don't know. on the one hand you need benefits: on the other hand if nothing else is hiring ... and you might be able to get medicaid or something similar? need more data.

Apparently you can get ins. through the school system for $150-200/month or something along those lines. Which would leave me with about $900 for the month.... and rent is $600 . . . . meaning I can't afford to eat/pay utilities/phone/car, etc.

If I don't qualify for food stamps, I am not sure I would qualify for medicaid.

The thing is on unemployment I can get free or heavily discounted insurance, at this job, I am not so sure I have that option.

yes, it does. it all sucks. Also, if I have this job it makes it harder to spend time with you when you visit!

So the system is set up so that you can't AFFORD to work. That is so screwed up!

Yeah, I definitely agree that benefits are a must have.

The only reason I say yes is because I know how difficult it has been for you to find a teaching position. I say take it, but keep applying for teaching jobs so you can at least be bringing in some cash to live on.

Voted 'no' as well, for all the reasons wiser people than I have mentioned already.
